How BTC 15-Minute Markets Work
Understand Kalshi BTC 15-minute contract identity, strike, reference price, expiration and settlement—and why a spot chart is not the final result.

You trade an event contract, not spot Bitcoin
The BTC 15-minute workflow in these guides concerns Kalshi event contracts. Buying a contract is not buying spot Bitcoin, opening a leveraged futures position or purchasing a Bitcoin option. Its outcome is determined by that market’s stated rule.
Start on the exact market page. Check the series, event and market ticker; the time window; the target or strike; the YES/NO condition; and the settlement reference. Similar titles and neighboring 15-minute rounds are not interchangeable contracts. DOOM’s current supported series mapping is KXBTC15M.
Read the strike and the outcome condition
The strike or target is the comparison level defined for the contract. In the official BTC 15-minute example linked below, YES resolves when the specified final average is at least the target. Follow the exact rule for the contract you are considering, including equality and rounding, rather than substituting an informal “green candle” rule.
UP / YES and DOWN / NO are interface mappings within this supported workflow. The market’s published condition remains authoritative. Check it when comparing a signal to a round outcome or reconciling a settled position.
The settlement reference is more specific than a chart
Kalshi’s crypto-market guidance describes settlement using an average of 60 one-second observations from the relevant CF Benchmarks real-time index during the final minute. Its BTC 15-minute market example identifies BRTI and the contract’s target and expiration time.
A spot quote from another venue can differ from that final reference. A chart close, a model probability or the last price you happened to see is not the official determination. Read the market-specific rules and settlement record when you need the actual result.
Three clocks matter
The contract’s trading window, DOOM’s automatic entry window and the exchange’s settlement process are different clocks. A market may still be open after the DOOM entry deadline has passed. A market closing does not require its final settlement record to appear instantly.
For current automatic buys, the entry deadline is the first actionable signal plus 60 seconds. This is an execution rule in DOOM, not a change to Kalshi’s contract duration or settlement methodology. Manual decisions and existing sell exits should not be inferred from that deadline alone.

A short pre-trade reading checklist
Verify the exact ticker and time zone before comparing observations. Read the target, settlement source and resolution condition on the market page. Check the selected-side bid/ask, spread and applicable fees separately from Bitcoin’s spot price.
Finally, inspect the rule’s saved state, account connection and market buying power. Even a well-understood contract can produce a loss, and a saved rule does not guarantee an order or fill. Use actual exchange execution and settlement records to review the outcome.
